OCT, SOUTH FORK of the SHENANDOAH, Sat, Oct 10

Post by martha james »

We'll meet at the boat landing in Newport at 10:30, but don't unload your boat. When the group gets there we'll decide if we'll paddle Newport or Alma to White House Landing. Let me know who's coming

I called the outfitters who are about 12 miles down river on the SF Shenandoah from Rt 211/ White House. They are still running trips on 6 miles of the Compton section - mile 13 to mile 19. These on-the-river mile markers start at mile 0 at the Luray dam.
Also, they have camping - $11/person, minimum site rental is $44.

So the plan is to meet at the boat landing in Newport at 10:30 but don't unload your boat. Our best choices for paddling are Whitehouse Landing to the dam, the Comptons section, or Alma to Whitehouse Landing. We'II decide as a group. I will add that there is a festival in Luray for those that might be interested.
