OCT: Maury Rockbridge Baths Saturday, April 20

Post by Raymond »

I’m planning to run Rockbridge Baths to Copper Road.

Update: The Maury level is dropping slowly, and it looks as if it will be about 2.1 - 2.2 feet and in the 370ish CFS range. I’ve run it as low as 2.04 and 294 CFS, and it was worth it.

So, I’m still planning to meet at the Rockbridge Baths putin at 11 a.m.

If I haven’t heard from you and you plan to attend, let me know.

I’ll check at 8:00 a.m. and if it’s dropped significantly more than expected, I’ll post; otherwise I won’t.

If not, we will probably switch to the Balcony Falls section of the James. Check back Friday for confirmation.

Meet at 11:00 a.m. at the putin to set shuttle. Putin is Rockbridge Baths Post Office for the Maury; Locher Landing at Jarvis Trail, Glasgow, for Balcony.

Make sure you don’t park in the Post Office parking areas.

This is a novice/intermediate level trip. The water will still be cold, so dress for it.

Respond here or call/email if you plan to join us.

Also, after paddling, please join us for the Spring Rendezvous at the pavilion at Jordan Point Park in Lexington for dinner starting at 6 p.m. BBQ is provided; bring a side dish.

This is one of several official club trips on the Maury in advance of our Spring Gathering; these are listed on the Events Calendar and information about those trips will be posted in other threads on the forum.

May be interested. Will watch level.

What is your minimum for the section below Rockbridge?

Thanks.

Don,

I’ve run it as low as 1.94 & about 246 CFS on the Rockbridge Baths gauge. Ken Dubel has run it as low as 1.85 and said it was still good to run. So I'd run it somewhere in that range if there are folks interested.

We actually ran it at 1.64' USGS, 150cfs in May of 2023 and lived to tell about it. Doesn't mean I'd recommend it ;)
Hopefully it will hold much better than that, plus there are some chances of T-storms this week.

I'd like to join you. (If there are enough people to pull me out of the river at Copper Road. If not, I'm happy to join JJ's trip. Will wait to see.)
