OCT TRIP JAMES RIVER CHANGED TO OCT1 ROAD CLOSURES

Road race closing the streets to the takeout, moving the trip to Sunday Oct 1.

The upper section (Pony Pasture to Reedy Creek) is rated class I-II. Rapids in the lower section (Reedy Creek to 14th St) are rated up to class III+. Looks like the river will be around 4 feet and water temps in the mid 60 range so plan accordingly. Please let me know if you are interested in coming with us and whether you want to paddle the upper section or both sections. Anticipated meet time is 10:00 a.m. at 14th St for those who want to paddle both sections.

Hey all, Looks like a road race will close the roads to the 14st takeout so I am changing the date to Sunday 10/1/23 for those who can make it.

Warren, I’m interested in Upper only, I’d be coming from near Charlottesville and I’m not sure I understand needing to go to 14th st. Never been there, will have to look for directions and will see how much time it adds to the trip. Kinda early already.
