OCT: Saturday, 4/29 Maury Rockbridge Baths
Update for Saturday, April 29
The trip is still on for Rockbridge Baths, but the river is at a pushier level with bigger waves and holes. You can cheat the bigger stuff. Still meet at the Post Office, but we may use the river right putin to avoid the steep muddy bank.
The Maury is at 3.64 ft and 1360 CFS.
The highest that I’ve done it is at 3.32 & 1150 CFS. My notes say big waves in spots, usually a cheat route, though. This is beefier and less friendly than the typical levels that we run it.
Meet at 11:00 a.m. at the putin to set shuttle. Meet at Rockbridge Baths Post Office for the Maury.
Make sure you don’t park in the Post Office parking areas.
This is a novice/intermediate level trip. The water will still be cold, so dress for it.
Respond here or call/email if you plan to join us.
Also, after paddling, please join us for the Spring Rendezvous at the pavilion at Glen Maury Park in Buena Vista for dinner starting at 6 p.m. BBQ is provided; bring a side dish. (suggested dishes: last name starting with A-F bring Dessert; G-L Appetizer; M-R Side Dish; and S-Z Salad).

Hope to see folks on the river and at dinner.

Re: OCT: Saturday, 4/29 Maury Rockbridge Baths
Update:
Looks as if the Maury is starting to drop a bit after peaking earlier. At 5:00 is was at 3.02 and 848 CFS, which is a good level for Rockbridge Baths. However, the forecast does call for some rain starting around 6:30 – 10:30.
For now, it looks like we can run Rockbridge Baths, meeting at the Post Office at 11. However, I’ll check the gauges around 10 tonight and 7 a.m. Saturday and post if anything changes. If you can’t check Facebook or the forum in the morning shortly after 7, then email me with your phone #, and I’ll text you.
If the Maury and James are too high, we might be able to switch to something smaller that’s nearby.

It’s 3.64 ft and 1360 CFS.
The highest that I’ve done it is at 3.32 & 1150 CFS. My notes say big waves in spots, usually a cheat route, though. This is beefier and less friendly than the typical levels that we run it. It seems to be dropping slowly, so it will probably be close to the highest level that I’ve run it by trip time.
I’m checking some options and will post my decision soon.
Several have decided to join J.J.’s Lexington to Stuartsburg Road trip instead of this section.
