OCT Sat August 27, 2022 New River Gorge, WV

Post by billh1970 »

The New River Gorge has been fairly high most of the summer and mostly above my personal preference for level most of the time. My guess right now is the trip won't happen.

The rain this past weekend won't help with that. Around 4,000 cfs at Thurmond would be my cut off. It's around 7,700 cfs right now. Glen Lyn, VA going into WV is about 11,000 cfs and another 4,700 cfs on the lower Greenbrier River and all that water will be in the gorge in a few days.

If the trip goes, I'm thinking of meeting at the NRG visitor center at 11 am, or something like that. The Lower Gauley could be an alternate if it's not too low by then.

The summer has been frustrating with high water in the big water rivers, but no creeking.

Regards,
Bill Hamill

The gauges have been falling and I'm going to see how the levels shake out for Sunday.

I'm interested in joining you Sunday if the level is steady (1.7 feet now) or falling. Thanks.

I'm sorry that I didn't see your posting earlier. I'm meeting at noon at the New River Gorge Bridge Visitor Center. Should be two other vehicles meeting there. My number is (redacted after overcome by events), but the phone doesn't work that well in parts of WV.
Thanks,
Bill Hamill

Both Phillip and Bill are in the directory. That contact information should help your communication

Bill, it looks like you might want to contact Jeff, membership chair with updated phone numbers. C.membership@coastals.org

No problem. Should have mentioned I was looking for an earlier start. Maybe next time.
