Wolf Creek June 1 PFD X 2

Let us know how it went! Swim confessions and carnage reports are welcome, but it's not fair to tell on your buddies!

Wolf Creek June 1 PFD X 2

Post by BRIC »

This has been on the list for a long time. Water level was 450 cfs. We decided this would be a comfortable level to both do PFD's. Trusting on the guide book, advice from other paddlers and good judgement.
Creek is mostly roadside so we got glimpses of the rapids while setting shuttle. Went to last low water bridge for put-tin. Good access and parking.
Before settling on this location we drove upstream and saw tempting rapids between old low water bridges clogged with driftwood. Decided this was not worth the effort and risk. Reminding ourselves this is a PFD.
Lots of rapids all the way to Narrows. Enough technical features to work the creek, do ferries, attainments and eddy hop. Stretched the trip to about 5 hours enjoying the creek. Did not see another boat.
Definitely worth a run.

Glad you enjoyed it, this is one of my local favorites. I added this segment to AW a few years ago: https://www.americanwhitewater.org/cont ... 10717/main. Feel free to add anything there. It's definitely more continuous than nearby Walker Creek. I'm interested in running upstream sections (including but not limited to the Burkes Garden put-in) so let me know if you'd like to do it.

New trip with 2 getting PFD's. Carol and Jennifer K-1.
Others Mike B K-1 and Charlie W OC-1. Very enjoyable river.
Level was 450 cfs, adequate flow.
We put in at the low water bridge on Morehead Road vice the Chapel indicated on the AW page. Chapel is 1.7 miles downstream. Reached the Chapel in 53 minutes.
Took out just past the Town of Narrows Park in a gravel lot.
Saved .8 miles and avoided the shallow lake and the duck s..t on the banks.
Distance is 10.7 miles.
Total trip time 3 hours.
There were a couple of strainers avoided easily at this level. These tend to move-be alert.
