OCT: Maury at Goshen Pass, Sat. May 14 for the Spring Rendezvous
This is in conjunction with the Spring Gathering at Glen Maury Park along with two other river trips in this forum.
This is a trip for fairly advanced paddlers.

Take AW's minimum and maximum with a big grain of salt.
The Maury is booming as of this writing but asking it to hold for the pass for a week is asking for a lot. We'll see. If the Goshen Pass drops out then we might end up at the James at Balcony Falls.
Please contact me here or through the board's messaging function or email if interested. It is not okay to just show up for this one. Timing and location to be determined as the week wears on.
Cheers,
Ken Dubel

Goshen Pass might just hold for Saturday. With zero rain (a little is predicted) it may well still be runnable at a low and technical level. (Quoting a friend, you'll hit more rocks but you won't hit them as hard.) This bodes well for Raymond's trip below the post office too -- should be a pleasant level there.

Hi, Ken,
What flow level are we expecting? I would like to join if it is between 500 and 1000
Thanks,
Suprio

I'll go out on a limb here regarding water levels. A quarter inch of rain is expected today. Assuming that has little if any effect I'll say we'll have around 2.3 feet / 400 cfs USGS at Rockbridge Baths. That corresponds to around 14 inches on the old stick / bridge gauges.
As to Goshen Pass I will happily run it this low or else join the gang below the post office. I will say 2.3 is the trickiest level I've experienced at Corner Rapid. The broad shoal rapid around an island at Wilson Spring will be very bumpy.
This will be a nice friendly level below the post office. I can't speak for the section near Glasgow but would expect it to be nice there too.
A high of around 75 is expected, winds 5 mph, 50 - 50 chance on a stray thunderstorm.
Cheers,
Ken

Re: OCT: Maury at Goshen Pass, Sat. May 14 for the Spring Rendezvous
A little bird told me we had some locally heavy rains today and the Rockbridge Baths gauge is showing little blip up as of this writing. (Friday evening.) Looking at rain gauges I don't think this was a regional event and so, famous last words, I don't expect it to bring the river up much.
At this point I don't have any definite takers for a run of the pass. I'm still game if anyone out there is lurking. Otherwise I'll enjoy joining Raymond's trip below the post office.
Cheers,
Ken

Hi Ken,
I’m hoping to get on Goshen! I misunderstood how the rendezvous worked and thought we’d all gather Saturday morning to figure out logistics. I’m here at Glenn Maury. My number is +1 (703) 462-3076. Let me know where and when to meet to get out on Goshen. Worst case we can try for Sunday.
Thanks and sorry for the late response

I plan to be at the post office in Rockbridge Baths in time (11:00) to join Raymond's trip from there down to Copper Road if that's how this pans out. If there is interest in the pass and folks show up then I will head upstream to do so.
If you plug Rockbridge Baths into your GPS thingamajig then it should get you close. Look for route 39 west of Lexington and follow the river upstream.
Cheers,
Ken
