OCT Shenandoah Ice Cream Run, Sunday , Aug 22

Post by martha james »

Back by popular demand, it's the Shenandoah Ice Cream Run. We'll paddle Newport to White House Landing( actually across the river) and go for ice cream afterwards. We'll meet at the boat landing in Newport at 10:30. If the river is too low, we have the option of putting in at Alma, but currently the level looks good. Please let me know who's coming.

We're up to 6 people now. And it looks like we'll have more water.

Hello Martha -

I was wondering if I could join this trip with my wife and myself on my cataraft. I haven't been on this section of the South Fork Shenandoah and wonder how low the water might be/how tight the channels? It is a 14 foot long cataraft, about 6 feet wide that I row. It drafts maybe 4 or 5 inches with me and my wife aboard. We are self sufficient with regard to the shuttle - just looking for a new section and making some new friends.

Let me know what you think if you can. Thanks!

Regrets

Post by ReeseB »

Hi Martha,

Pamela and I will not be joining you on the river Sunday and send our regrets. We have had a hellacious week that included a vehicle fire which totaled the car and melted two canoes.

However, if you know an ETA at the ice cream shop, we would like very much to join everyone and socialize.

We are doing the annual cleanup on Saturday with Friends of the Middle River, and are planning to come on Daryl's trip next Sunday.

I would like Togo, but realistically, probably can't (asthma has been kicking my butt this week).

I'll make a final decision Saturday evening, unless you want the count before then.

Ted and Caroline may join you if I can figure how to assemble a borrowed Aire Lynx IK to sit in and paddle. We have been selling off our fleet this summer and I don't have anything I can paddle. My knees are failing and I can't kneel anymore. Good thing I'm not Catholic. Caroline has kept her favorite reliable green kayak from 1993 that you all know.

Reece, I'm guessing 4:00ish at the ice cream shop in Shenandoah.
And as far as a cataraft goes, I would think we'll have enough water that the channels shouldn't be too tight. Just in case, we'll have enough folks to help you pick up that boat if necessary!

Martha, with this number, will there be a problem with parking capacity at the temporary takeout?

We'll figure it out. Probably only vehicles at the take out that can carry multiple boats.
