Driving to Douthat State Park This Weekend

Post by Bill Capp »

Is anybody else concerned about traveling by car this weekend with the current gasoline shortage?

Well Bill, I did some rough math and I'm pretty sure that i can get there, paddle and make it home on my tank that I filled 2 days ago. I'm also hoping that as we get away from Charlottesville there will be more gas availability.

Would be great to hear what the gas situation is like in Clifton Forge/Covington if anyone is in the area. I know my truck wont make it there, run some trips, and make it back in a tank.

Update to all: my best prediction is that the river us going to be low runnable. Scraping is likely. And the water is cold. Not Nantahala cold, but certainly not warm.

Also, yes, the gas shortage may be an issue for some. I don't know if gas will be available in the area. I am hoping that the problem will be resolved by Fri. But, please let me know if you can't come.

As of right now, we have 17 paddlers coming. Happy to have more! Just let me know. We might divide in two.

See you Sat, Terri

Due to uncertainty of gas availability, Betty and I are not coming. Our cabin reservation just cancelled and should be on the market.
We hate to miss this gathering and hope someone can get the cabin.

Gasbuddy.com

Post by jamie_higgins »

If you go to gasbuddy.com and go to the tools tab then hit fuel outage tracker. You can plug in the city and state. It will give you locations of gas and the supply of gas at that location. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it might help you locate fuel when you are traveling for the Spring Gathering.

The gas buddy tracker is pretty new to me, so not sure how accurate is actually is. But, it is showing pretty good gas availability from Lexington west, especially in Clifton Forge. Availability should improve a little each day as well.

It was a really nice day, and while the water was on the lower end, I saw no knuckle-walking except while launching.

Thank you Terri for leading!
