Maury River from Alone Mill Rd to Lexington

Let us know how it went! Swim confessions and carnage reports are welcome, but it's not fair to tell on your buddies!

Maury River from Alone Mill Rd to Lexington

Post by Wallace »

8 souls made the trip. Highlighted by a cold, damp, DARK cave, and the potholes of Whistle Creek. All swimming was on purpose, so I get to write the trip report. Kismet, karma, fate, destiny? A nice afternoon, with good water (a little under 600 cfs, looking back at the gage graph, on the Rockbridge Baths gage). For future reference, you want some water in the river for this run. All the “rapids” are shoals, so higher water is both faster and a lot more navigable. I won’t put hard limits on either end, but we had a great trip at this level. I paddled an Old Town Osprey 14’ with my neighbor in the front seat and we took minimal splashes into the boat.
