Jackson River Pulse Release is Wednesday, 9/27/2017
All,
The next Jackson River Pulse Release is Wednesday, 9/27/2017. For the new partakers, this is a fast 13 mile class I – II run, with some nice wave trains. There is one, Class III-, rapid right below the dam. You can choose to run it or skip it; your choice. Usually, about half the group runs the top rapid and the other half puts in just below the rapid. The put-ins are separated by a mere 300 yards. Bring a lunch and plan on spending the day with us. It is a good idea to bring a change of clothes for after the run. If you have the time, we usually have dinner together after the run. Join the caravan or meet us at Petticoat Junction take-out by 10:00. The forecast for now is for clear and highs in the low 80's.
We are trying something a little different this time. Some folks like to run the Dam Rapid at peak flow (about 10:45). Others prefer to run it at 6” to 1’ below peak (about 11:15). We will try to accommodate everyone. If you want to run it at peak, that is great. Let me know and I and will try to get you to the top in time and ensure we have people at the lower put-in ready in case a rescue is needed. If you hurry, you can then go back to the top and run it again with the group that wants to paddle it at a lower level. Everyone will hold at the lower put-in until all paddlers are off the top rapid and ready to go.
Remember, this is a dam release. The water will be cold (upper 50 F), so dress appropriately. The flow will be high, so anticipate strong and erratic currents in some places. Even though this is a relatively easy run, the high flow necessitates that everyone be strong swimmers. This is a strong novice or better run. No novices on the Upper Dam Rapid. This is not a beginner run.
Here is the caravan schedule.

Count me in. I will meet you in Lexington. I can bring my canoe trailer if you need it to shuttle boats.

I'm coming. Hard to pass up temps in the mid-80s. And it's been about 30 years since I ran this.
Will meet @ the T/O.
