OCT SF Shenandoah Newport to White House Saturday June 24

Post by Daryl »

I'm coordinating a beginner/novice trip on the SF Shenandoah Saturday from Newport to White House landing. This is an 8.5 mile class I-II run through a beautiful area.

We'll meet at the Newport put-in at 10:30am. Please let me know if you plan to join in on the fun.

Looking forward to it!

I'm keeping an eye on the weather forecast for this one. The Harrisonburg TV station is indicating the chance for 1-2 inches of rain Friday into Saturday morning.

The Shenandoah is pretty primed right now due to last week's rain in the watershed, so if the forecast comes to fruition, the river will rise pretty quickly and push it out of the beginner/novice realm that this trip is intended to be.

I'll post again on Friday as we get closer.

This trip is still on at this time. Rain is supposed to move in overnight/early Saturday morning. Local forecasters indicate the chance it could be heavy. I'll check gauges early Sat morning and if they're spiking upstream, I may need to cancel for safety.

The weather forecast is tending drier and seems the rain should be out earlier am, so it appears to be shaping up as a nice day. Last minute additions are welcome. Just let me know if you're coming so we can look for you.
