O.C.T. Maury below Indian Pool 12/3
It's too low for now, a little rain is expected, we'll see.
The James at Balcony Falls seems like a reasonable plan B. It's mighty low but I've run it lower. The current weather forecast looks like low fifties.
Stay tuned!

Too bad today isn't Friday! The Maury has spiked up to run-able. We had a nice sorta slow soaker rain which tends to mean the river will hold for a while but we've been so dreadfully dry that I don't expect it will hold for the weekend. We'll see.
The Maury below Rockbridge Baths holds better than below Indian Pool. If it comes down to a choice between Rockbridge Baths and Balcony then I'll choose Rockbridge Baths. Either way, Balcony should have some nice extra water.
Recent forecasts are calling for temps in the forties so bundle up!

well, after 3.5" rain here, the Maury is still going straight up -- currently @ 1200cfs! Might have a better chance now of lasting til Sat. Fingers crossed.

PLEASE PARK ACROSS THE ROAD FROM THE POST OFFICE!
As of Friday morning it looks like the Maury will be around 2.2 or 2.3 feet, USGS by noon on Saturday assuming they don't make any changes at the dam. That translates to just over a foot on the old RC gauge.
This is too low for the section between Indian Pool and Rockbridge Baths. There are two long rapids where the river gets wide and goes through shoals. I suppose one who is highly determined could grind through these but I feel better fun exists downstream.
This is a reasonable level below Rockbridge Baths. Low, but reasonable. Again, unless something weird happens at the dam we'll run this section.
PLEASE PARK ACROSS THE ROAD FROM THE POST OFFICE!
Cheers,
