Chilly Chilli - 1/1/15 - James
Start the New Year off right.... with your boating family. Afterward, we'll enjoy some good food and beverages. David Bernard has once again graciously offered to open his home and host the after paddle CHILI party.
The party is BYOB and BFFS (bring food for sharing) with an emphasis on Chili type dishes (though anything you bring will be devoured). I’ll let David provide directions and any further details below.
I’m offering an Upper James trip with an option to continue on to the Lower James. You may choose to do the Upper only, Lower only, or Upper and Lower combo. Please indicate which portions you are planning to partake in your post.
I will need someone to coordinate the group running only the Lower James segment. The goal is to meet up and mingle with the courageous souls doing the Upper / Lower combo. Let me know if you want to herd lower boaters….
Looking for a menagerie of boaters this year. So bring your raft, SUP, craft of choice. Bring your family too!!!
Here is the schedule:
0930 - Folks participating in the Upper/Lower trip should arrive at the 14th St. takeout and change into their gear.
0945 Upper/Lower group will shuttle to Pony and drop vehicles at Reedy for folks doing the Upper Only .
1000 - Upper / Lower group puts on at Pony Pasture.
1145 – Lower only group should arrive, change into gear and organize shuttle at 14th St.
1200 - Lower group leaves 14th St heading for Reedy.
1230 - Lower group meets up with the Upper / Lower group at Reedy. Upper only folks' vehicles are waiting for them at Reedy.
230 - Lower group takes out at 14th St., change clothes, pack up and head to David's.
300-330 - All interested hungry and thirsty folks show up at David's house.
Make sure you post, the Upper trip is subject to cancellation if there is no interest.

I look forward to hosting Coastals' Chilly Chili Party on New Year's Day. Come on by after you paddle or around 3.
My house is exactly one mile south of Pony Pasture, near Southampton Recreation Association. My address is in the Directory or PM if you have misplaced that.
I will prepare Louisiana Red Beans and Rice. I have plenty of dishes and silverware and cups, but if someone has a set of bowls to bring, that would be helpful.

I'm doing the lower only. Don't know if you've got a volunteer to head up herding the Lower group, but I'll volunteer. Let me know.
This thread is awfully quiet this year.
Post up if you're planning to join one of these trips so we don't leave you behind!
See yous on the river!

Generally, I think that if I have the opportunity to paddle, and I've got something else to do or I feel like I shouldn't go for some reason, then I force myself to go and I always have a great time. So, I guess when in doubt -- Go, Paddle. -- Tommy Hilleke
I'll be there to help shuttle.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming....WOW What a ride! . . . . . Trying to live up to this, Priceless. As long as you have good insurance!
If anyone is coming up to Richmond from the Raleigh area (or central NC) please let me know. I have a small favor to ask!
Thanks,
Guy

Envelope – Free stationary taken from the Marriott while on a business trip.
Snowflake address label – sent to me free and had to be used up.
Stained glass stamp – It was more then three feet away from me when I decided to get them so you know I didn’t see them clearly
Butterfly and Sunflower stickers on the back – Also free and required because the glue on the envelope was so old it no longer stuck.
