OCT 7/19 & 20 on NRG

Post by Alicia »

Last year the New River Gorge was too high to run this trip, but it's looking promising for this year. First timers are welcome but please contact me by posting here or PM below. I'd also like to have some veteran paddlers to help, too, please.

See here for river info on this Class 3-4 run: http://www.americanwhitewater.org/conte ... l/id/2418/

The plan will be to meet Sat, 11am @ the Canyon Rim Visitors Center on Rt 19 near Fayetteville, WV. We'll set shuttle from there. That will hopefully put us behind the rafts but still with plenty of daylight.

We'll camp @ Ray's Campground on Sat night (after eating out): http://newrivergorgecvb.com/company/rays-campground/

Then aim to head out by 10am on Sunday to paddle the Gorge again.

BTW, we should be good to go if the level is anywhere between -1.5' to 2.0'.

Bump.

The New's @ -0.5', so should be good to go (compared to 6' this time last year!). Please let me know if you're interested in joining.

thanx, aj

Alicia,
I would like to join you guys for the NRG trip. I have been down twice in a raft, but this will be my first kayak descent. Not sure where I will stay yet, and was thinking about doing some rock climbing Sunday. If I cannot entice anyone into joining me on that endeavor I will probably float with you guys Sunday as well. Looking forward to some excitement. PM me if you have any questions and sorry to disappoint...not a veteran of the Gorge.

Alicia:

I am going to try to make it to WV this weekend. I'm not sure if I'll be rowing it or R-2ing it yet. I'll try to figure that out by Friday. :D

It will likely only be Saturday though.

I've been down the NRG a time or three, but I haven't been on it since last summer. Looks promising for a level around zero to 6".

Josh and I will definitely be there Saturday, likely Sunday as well. I know the New very well, he knows it fairly well, 1st canoe (kayak for him) descents. We'll bring our shredder in case the water is too high for us wimps :)

Thanx to all who've posted & contacted me - looks to be a great group. I also have some out of state ol' Coastals friends joining. The level is cooperating (just under 0'), which may sound low but is plenty of water. The weather looks to be in the mid-upper 70s w/ showers & T-storms likely both days & night, so please plan accordingly (it's amazing how cool it can get when a storm rolls through).

Please still let me know if you're coming. Looking forward to it!

PFD needs a ride to this trip

Post by bambam »

Big regrets, I almost certainly can't make it.

I have a PFD that needs a ride to this trip. I'm working in Harrisonburg tomorrow and will bring it with me. Is anyone passing through tomorrow? I could meet you just off of I-81 at exit 247 any time during business hours.

You won't need to bring it back to me.

Anyone?

Have a wonderful trip, I'll be there in spirit.

Cheers,

Bummer on Ken missing!

Or - does anyone have an XL or 2XL life jacket that a rafter in the group could borrow, please?

I have 2 extra XL PFDs I can bring. One is a 'low-profile' slalom vest; the other is a full-on rescue vest. I'll just bring both so the person can choose.

Awesome - thanx, Greg!

Raymond - will be good to CU, too.

We're about @ 20 (that incl's a raft-full and a few 1st timers). Definitely getting excited!

If you don't mind a last minute reply......here it is!
I am heading up tonight.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming....WOW What a ride! . . . . . Trying to live up to this, Priceless. As long as you have good insurance!
