Bloomington Release Aug 24-25

Post by Katherine »

From USACE re. No. Branch Potomac River:
There will be a water quality release from Jennings Randolph Lake beginning on Saturday August 24. We will start increasing the flow at about 4 AM and reach about 1000 cfs at Barnum by 7 AM. The 1000 cfs flow will continue until Sunday August 25 at 3 PM when we plan to reduce flows over the next two hours. The post event flow will be about 265 cfs.

Unless we get additional rain between now and this weekend, this release will likely drop the lake elevation to a point that would necessitate closing the beach to swimming.

I've been thinking about it, Dave - there should be info. later today on the MCC m.b. re. a trip on Sat. If any Coastals are interested I'd be willing to coordinate or help with a trip on Sat.

Haven't been in years, but have a new boat(IK) that needs to be tested out. Pretty sure I remember the lines to run and think I would enjoy it again.

Bloomington Paddle on Saturday

Post by Katherine »

Okay, let's go! This is the best time of year to do that run, imho. What time do you want to meet at the t.o. in Bloomington?
I am also checking to see what time the MCC trip will be.

Meeting Time

Post by Katherine »

How about 11 am? The release is continuous through the weekend so we don't have to worry about running out of water.
Just spoke with one of the MCC paddlers about joining up with their group, and they are waiting on someone to firm up their meeting time (they'll be caravaning from Rockville).
