OCT-Lower Yough Friday 7-27

Post by open boater »

I've had some folks ask me about this trip, so here it is!
Let's meet at The Grassy Knoll (for newbies, the parking area across from check-in station) a 1pm. We will set shuttle and go from there. Permits are not required, although we will all need to purchase bus tokens. Let me know your coming so if you are late we can wait for you. If you are a "first" timer please let me know. Just a heads up and I haven't studied it yet but a line of storms recently passed through that area. The Casselman at Markleton gauge at 9:00 Thursday night is at 1,700 cfs and rising.

Best guess says this will be a temporary spike and might actually be good news for Friday's trip as the lower Yough has been a tad low these days. Like I said, I haven't studied it.

Background information, the lower Yough is partially dam-controlled. The Casselman dumps in below the dam, is free-flowing, and can make it impossible for the dam keepers to maintain optimal standard rafting flows at times.

Happy gauge geeking,

Gauge is up with a really good looking forecast for this afternoons paddle. We're on our way and looking forward to it.

The Casselman crested last night in the upper 3,000's. The Lower Yough gauge is now reflecting this flow -- 4.6 feet and rising but hinting at a crest.
