Anybody paddling the Upper James Sat or Sun?

Post by M Driscoll »

Anybody getting out or want to get out on the Upper James this Saturday or Sunday morning? I was thinking maybe a down river paddle if above 7.5ft or a park-n-play at PP if the level drops to between 6.5ft and 7.5ft. Hopefully it wont drop below that being as it is still currently climbing..

The above is just loose thoughts if I were to organize an outing/trip, but I am flexible either way. If a group is paddling on either one of these days, would it be ok if I join?

I'd guess the level will be a little over 8 ft on Sat. I may be up for a run of the Upper, maybe lower, too, depending on level and the group. Are you thinking early morning, or something later? I haven't organized anything yet, so I'm flexible.

Hmm, now the projection has it receding as fast as it went up. If it holds true, looks like it will only be around 7ft by mid day tomorrow. Although tagging along with an existing group would not be objectional, at that level I just assume park-n-play at Pony Pasture. 7ft is a perfect surf, spin and attain level IMO.

If getting suited up in drygear just to PnP at PP for a couple of hours is more trouble than its worth, I totally understand. I havent been out paddling in a while, so Ill probably head out there either way. I have some commitments in the am, so looking at showing up around 12:30.

I would like to tag along with you. I would consider myself a competent beginner. I have a decent roll. I am getting a new boat on Sat and want to try it out. Let me know what you think.

Shannon, you are more than welcome to join me on Saturday. Pony Pasture at 7ft has really fun yet relatively low consequence features. It is a great level for skill building; front surfs, spins, attainments, ferrys, peel ins/outs, etc..
