OCT Maury River...Buena Vista To Glasgow August 7th CHANGE

Post by allsky7 »

Odds are not good that there will be enough water for this paddle. The likely substitute paddles are the James (Buchanan area) or the Jackson. Stay tuned for more details.

UPDATE

This OCT has been changed to Johnson Spring to Petticoat Junction on the Jackson River. The Jackson is dam release and has been at 275cfs for weeks and I anticipate that it will stay there through the weekend. 275 is low runnable and as long as there is no further drop....we are good to go. Please check here for any change between now and Sunday. If you will not have access to this site....I can be reached at 434-841-294zero for more info.
We will meet at the Lexington Wal Mart at 9:00am Sun. Anyone that prefers....may meet us at the Petticoat Junction take out at 10:00am. From there we will work out shuttle. PLEASE post if you plan to join us. We do not want to leave anyone!

Directions to Lexington Wal Mart (from I-81 corridor)
- I-81 to I-64 west
- I-64 west to first exit (Lexington/Goshen)
- Turn right off exit ramp
- WM 1/4 mile on left.

Just wondering what class rapids the river has at this level, its a bit of a drive for me and not sure I'd want to drive all the way and it be mostly flat water with a few class ones or something not looking for real big stuff or anything just something more then 1s and flat water.

I checked americanwhitewater.org for info on the river but the two entries on there are places located above where this trip plans to go.

This is pretty much a class I paddle. A few rapids might be I+. If we had a little more water in the river....we might be able to bump it up a little. The section just about the one that we are paddling (Gathright Dam down to Johnson Spring) is a little bit of a step up. It too would be better with a little more water. Hope you will join us....but understand the long drive.....Steve

Yeah don't think I can drive that far for class 1 I'll probably end up doing the small stretch around Richmond on the James. Thanks for the info and everything.
