Skills Clinic – Eddy Turns, Peel Outs, and Ferries – 4/16/11 - Coastals Quarterly Meeting Weekend

Want to improve your skills? Then come join me for this clinic on the Balcony Falls section of the James. (and then go to the Coastals Quarterly Meeting afterward)

What we will cover:

Eddy Turns: review the fundamentals and learn techniques for catching micro eddies, getting past big beefy eddy lines, and controlling where you end up in the eddy.

Ferries: review the fundamentals, and learn to ferry across fast current, through wave trains, and how to be more efficient.

Peel Outs:
review the fundamentals of how to get out of an eddy, and learn to peel out into fast current and into a wave train.

Logistics

When: Saturday, April 16th, meet at the put in for Balcony Falls in Glasgow at 9 AM to set shuttle and get on the river.

Where: Balcony Falls Section of the James (Class II/III)

Price: $20, there will be an additional $5.00 fee if you are not a member of the American Canoe Association

Prerequisites:
Whitewater kayaks only (with spray skirt). Must be comfortable with wet exit, and have paddled class II whitewater. You are strongly encouraged to join the Coastal Canoeists and the ACA.

Shannon,

Is it o.k. if I post this on a local message board (Creek Freaks)? We've picked up a few members for Coastals thanks to local boaters wanting to take our clinics.

This class is now full.

Let me know if you are interested in the event that someone drops out. If there is a lot of interest, I will try to do another class later this summer.

Thanks
