O.C.T. - 1/1/11 Chilly Chili Paddle **ALL TRIPS**

Post by slo2rol »

It's almost that time again... the annual Chilly Chili paddle is just two weeks away. Get out, get wet, get cold, have fun and enjoy some camaraderie with other crazy people afterward while enjoying good food and beverages.

We're trying something a little new this time using a poll to get a quick glance at the number of attendees planning to come, so please indicate your trip preference in the poll in addition to posting in this thread.

Sejal is offering an Upper James trip with an option to continue on to the Lower James. You may choose to do the Upper only or Upper and Lower. Please indicate which portions you are planning to partake in your post and the poll.

I will be making two laps on the Lower James. You may choose to do both laps or just the second, just be sure to indicate in your post and in the poll. On the second lap, we will meet up and mingle with Sejal's Upper / Lower group.

Here is the schedule:

0930 - Folks participating in the Upper/Lower trip or the first lap on the Lower should arrive at the 14th St. takeout and change into their gear. Upper/Lower group will shuttle to Pony in the MangoVan. 1st lap Lower group will shuttle to Reedy in Upper only people's vehicles.

1000 - Upper / Lower group puts on at Pony Pasture. 1st lap Lower group puts on at Reedy.

1130 - 1st lap Lower group takes out at 14th St. / 2nd lap Lower group should arrive and change at 14th St. We load shuttle. If there are any remaining vehicles for folk doing the Upper only , we will take these to Reedy before taking vehicles of folks doing the Lower.

1200 - 2nd lap Lower group leaves 14th St.

1230 - 2nd lap Lower group meets up with Sejal's Upper / Lower group at Reedy. Upper only folks' vehicles are waiting for them at Reedy.

1430 - Lower group takes out at 14th St., change clothes, pack up and head to David's.

1500-1530 - All folks should arrive at David's house.

Make sure you post and vote, trips are subject to cancellation due to no interest (i.e. don't just plan to show up).

Generally, I think that if I have the opportunity to paddle, and I've got something else to do or I feel like I shouldn't go for some reason, then I force myself to go and I always have a great time. So, I guess when in doubt -- Go, Paddle. -- Tommy Hilleke

lower

Post by open boater »

At current levels, I will be joining the last lap on the lower. If levels rise over the next 2 weeks that could change. Over 8', I will probably run the upper only, between 7'-8', I will most likely run both.

My husband & I will make it for the upper run if not too bony. He will definetely be running the lower with you all. I haven't been out since May...secondary to pregnancy...so no cold lower run for me. Time given to meet? Thanks! Merry Christmas to you!

I'm in for the upper as well. Don't see a thread for it.

I plan on making my 2011 paddling debut!

Have ya missed me? Ok, never mind, it was a rhetorical question anyway.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming....WOW What a ride! . . . . . Trying to live up to this, Priceless. As long as you have good insurance!

I'm planning to run the upper only, with my bowman Dan and another tandem canoe father/son duo. We're looking to maybe start a little later, like around noon. So, anyone who wants to start later for an upper run can join us.
