North Fork of Hardware

Post by john m »

This is the section in North Garden from the quarry to Old Lynchburg rd. I hadn't paddled it a long time so my recollection of the details was faint. At the level we paddled it I would call it a 3/4 run with the largest rapid a fairly straight forward 4 . We did get out to scout a couple times because of wood and a 5 or 6 foot ledge that looked like it might stop you but didn't . All in all it was cool to gear up at home and take off my gear by the wood stove . My indicator is a slab of concrete on the downstream side of the bridge below the major rapid. If that slab is covered it is good to go. The next day the internet gauge was higher than when we ran it but the indicator was lower ..Don't know why . I will try to post when I think the North fork is runnable . Of course this a subjective thing . At the level we paddled I would call it near zero. It comes up quick and it goes down quick. If you're interested in boating it let me know I live about five miles from it. John
