Saturday Paddle. Who is doing What??

Post by YeOldeAndDecrepite »

No scheduled paddle in the Coastal Website. The James will have water for sure. The Weatherman says that there will be rain today but no way to tell where the rain will fall. If there is good water I would like to go North to creeks/rivers I have not been on for a while; Conway, Hughes, Covington, and/or Thornton.

Even if the North Anna is up, I would do it as well since I have not been on that one in a long time.

The Northern trips will need a champion to coordinate and give us a heads up on how they are running.

Any Takers???

These Northern Creeks are tribs to the Rapp. They can be found in Culpeper, Va.

I don't see those Rappahannock tribs having any water. Near zero rain forecast and temperatures dropping through the rest of the week.

The graph on the Maury is unusually flat though so there is a prayer it might hold enough for a bumpy, tricky, but still fun run on Saturday. I've run it down to 13" at the bridge which is about 2.3 feet USGS.

We're expecting the deep freeze on Sunday.

Unless we get a ton of rain tonite, the Conway and probably the Hughes and those Northern Rivers will not have enough water. Looked at the Conway last week and is extremely low for this time of year

Need over 6 ft. at Remington on the Rappahannock and over 5 ft at Rixeyville on the Hazel to consider the Hughes.

So far I have not gotten back any report of Creeks or Rivers in around the state coming up. All that rain most have quit at the mountains and started again in the Northern states. West Va is too far and too cold for a one day trip.

Looking at the AWA page, the Bullpasture still has water. However, I would trust Ken's recommendation on that. If it is still up then a run up there would be good and maybe two runs are possible or go to the Maury mite be in order if enough daylight is left. http://www.americanwhitewater.org/conte ... l_id_4374_

The Bullpasture usually drops quickly, too quickly to hold for Saturday for all but the most low-water tolerant folks. However, there was a good bit of ice and some snow there last Saturday (higher elevation) so who knows?

The Maury graph is still unusually flat hovering around 600 cfs / 2.6 feet USGS / one foot five at the bridge. Time will tell, of course, but I'm hoping for a creeky run there on Saturday. Upper forties and might be breezy.
