I blew it this year and even with 4 months advance notice was unable to get the Burnwood campground.
This year, we will be at Mountain Lake Campground ( http://www.mountainlakecampground.com/ ). I’ve gotten sites 231 (regular site) and 232 (group site). They are next to each other and should be big enough to hold all of us (maybe).
I’ve reserved these sites for Friday (9/17/10) and Saturday (9/18/10) nights – checking out Sunday. I had to lay down some cash up front to get these sites so I’m going to ask everyone for $5 / night / person to (hopefully) recover my cost. When you check in at the campground, tell them you are with me / the Coastals. The campground is going to charge an additional $7 / person / night (except for the first 6 people who are covered under the reservation fees I’ve already paid). Confused?
Do not Google the address on the website – it will give you wrong directions. To get there take 60 west and then go north on Rt. 19 towards Summersville. After you cross over the Hughes Bridge (over Summersville Lake), take the first left towards the Summersville Airport. Follow signs to check in at the office. If you get to Summersville, you went too far north on 19.
There’s no shelter so if it looks like rain, consider bringing your EZ Up tarp thingy.
BOATING:
LOWER GAULEY FRIDAY:
I’m running the Lower Gauley the Friday of Gauley Fest. First timers with qualified resumes are welcome but should contact me first at dave dot kessmann at fgwa (period) com. Safety boaters would be much appreciated.
Let’s figure on meeting in the parking lot of the Food Land in Gauley Bridge at noon on Friday. The Food Land is on Rt. 60 on the left just before you get to the intersection of 60 and 39 in Gauley Bridge. It is a good sized grocery store. You won’t miss it.
NEW RIVER GORGE SATURDAY:
We are meeting at the Mountain Lake Campground at 9:30 am Saturday to run the New River Gorge. If it is your first time, contact me (dave period kessmann at fgwa period com) so we can make sure this is the trip for you. Veterans are welcome to just show up but DO NOT be late. There is some chance they might not let you in the campground which means you will miss the trip so your best bet is to camp with us.
This trip is quite large and has only been successful in the past because we have split up in to smaller groups. If you are interested in leading or safety boating for a few folks, your help would be greatly appreciated.
Another key factor to this trip’s success is having a concurrent trip on the Upper New (Thurmond to Cunard) so we can work out the PRO shuttle. I have secured the services of the infamous Matt Laschalt (Hazmat) to coordinate this trip.

This is the sixth year for this trip and I’m looking forward to it. This is how it went down in years past:
