OCT Bottom Tye, Saturday April 5

Post by GinnyN »

Let's meet at Tye River Depot on this map http://g.co/maps/gza5h at 10:30 to set shuttle.
feel free to contact me if you need further directions.

We are going to have plenty of water! This will not be a low water run ... in fact it may be the highest i've ever run it. We'll see what happens.

We’ll take out at Ruckers Run.

You can check this website for info too http://www.nelsoncountyva.org/NelDRace/

Please contact me to let me know you're going.

I'm coming to Virginia and would love to paddle with you all, but I need to go by the house I'm trying to sell in Richmond. Will see you in May if not before. Have fun.

Post by davidp »

Ginny,

Have the take-out issues at Rucker's Run been resolved?

Tye River Sat

Post by nancy »

Shorn and I would also like to paddle the Tye this Sat.
The Tye is dropping, but this will probably be the highest level we have paddled lower Tye.
We're staying at James River St Park this weekend.
We'd also like to paddle Sunday, but looks like the James may be too high.

Rucker Run

Post by allsky7 »

We took out at Rucker Run a few weeks back with no issues. I know for most paddlers this is common sense.....but it is important to stay as close to the edge and out of the field as possible. As stated previously.....we believe the issue is not paddlers taking out but people hanging out there and partying. We picked up 7-8 beer bottles right next to where the field is roped off at the road. This of course (hopefully) earns good river karma but just maybe local landowners might see and realize that (most) paddlers are not the problem.

Be aware that the parking area on the opposite side of the bridge from the take out is also on private property. It would also be good to pick up any trash that you see there. And definitely be sure not to block the driveway.

LOL.... yep! I realize this is the Bottom Tye (Race Course) section. Last time I paddled this section was during the race a few years ago and it's a little hard to enjoy the scenery while racing!

Cya at the put-in with my new red canoe!
