Upper Tye Thursday Jan. 28
From the graph I would expect about a 1000 cfs on the Tye on Thursday, close to an excellent level I enjoyed in December. C'ville high for the day is predicted at 54, partly cloudy.
Suggested plan: Meet at the AT parking lot takeout at noon? That's time for two runs. If anyone wants to carpool from Richmond, meet at Short Pump Whole Foods at I-64 exit 178 (I think that's the number - it intersects with West Broad Street.) Whole Foods at 9:30?
Post here or let me know.

Your plan is a good one and I'm highly tempted. Dunno if I can skip out of work two days in a row though. I'll let you know.
Thursday might be the last sorta warm day for a while. Forecast is calling for it to be windy but I do recall a day on the Tye where the wind was ripping the leaves off the tops of the mountains while it was rather calm on the river.

trip is on!
Hey Adam,
I will see you at the takeout at noon.

I have exceeded my goof-off allowance for the week and so am "out".
Great day today though. Given the 1,000 to 1,100 cfs range during the day I was expecting a little more water than I saw. I suspect enough water comes in downstream of this run but upstream of the gauge to skew the figures.
We had zero portages which is nice. There is a tree in a rapid close to the road where the river curves sharply right. The tree plus root ball is visible from the road and from upstream but significant current takes you toward it. It's left of a boulder (Gibraltar Rock?) which we normally run right of anyway. There is also a big log jammed under the route 56 bridge blocking the left 2/3 of the river. Easy to paddle around the right.
Have fun!
