Lower Yough Trip October 13 and 14

Post by babewithblades »

Calling all boaters for the Annual Bill Gordon Lower Yough Trip. Glad to see interest in the trip even though we’re sans Bill this year. Why let a great tradition go to the wayside. Perhaps we can entice Bill to join us!

After talking with Benners and Tall Oaks I have booked a block at Tall Oaks Campground because they have a Pavilion we can use for Saturday evening socializing and cooking in case of rain. Tall Oaks phone umber is 724-329-4097. I’ll post camp site numbers later this week. Cost is $10 per person per night for camping. They do have showers and full potty facilities. Please let me know via post to thread if you are camping with the group and what nites you are staying. Payment is to the campground.

Directions:
68 West to RT 40 West (Uniontown Exit). Continue on Rt40 to Rt 381 and turn left. There is a Pizza Hut on the corner. Continue one mile and look for Tall Oaks signs (blue) and turn left. Proceed one mile to entrance of campground.

We are planning to meet Saturday and Sunday mornings at the put-in at 9:00a sharp to organize and set shuttle. Goal is to be on the river at 10:00a.

Due to error in scheduling there are permits required. I have a block held for Sat and Sun at 10A. First Come First to Boat. $2.50 payable to JoAnn.

The illustrious Guy tells me the Corn Youth are looking to do a Turkey Fry for Saturday. If you’d like to join and be social please bring a dish to pass or beverages for the cooks. Corn please post what else we can do to support you for the turkey fry.

I am planning on leaving Friday afternoon with the hubby and dogs. If I can be of further assistance or you have additional questions please email Tom or JoAnn via Coastal's or call me directly at 804-503-0166.

So I can get an approximate count of attendees for Tall Oaks please post on this thread and let me know you are coming!

This trip is rated intermediate. First timers are very welcome on this trip but need to be comfortable on Class II- III moving water. Consistent roll also a great plus. If you are concerned about skill level please email Tom or JoAnn.

See you on the river!

I'll be there Friday and Saturday night. I know a minimum of two turkeys are going along with respective fryers and have put in a request for Johnny Cakes on Saturday AM but don't know how that will pan out. :)

http://www.americanwhitewater.org/conte ... l/id/1687/ Permits are required until October 15, so I assume everyone is on their own for getting permits - call 888-727-2757 for permits. Bring warm, preferably dry gear.

Send me your prefered recipe and we'll see what pans out :D

2 questions, the first shouldn't count.
Who's turn is it?
What goes good with turkey?

We must have had wires crossed as we thought we hit the first weekend of no permits. I called the office and confirmed permits are required this weekend. Let's continue as planned for the 13 and 14 as I know some are planning a RF trip for 10/20. Permit schmermit let's go boat!

I have reserved a block of permits for a 10a shuttle both days. Permits are 2.50 and payable to JoAnn. I have only reserved a limited number. Please confirm to me if you are coming on this thread.

Giggles and I will be there Friday and Saturday Night.
Put us down for camping and permits.
Thanks,
Wade

Oh yeah, I will be there Friday and Saturday nights as well.
Envelope – Free stationary taken from the Marriott while on a business trip.
Snowflake address label – sent to me free and had to be used up.
Stained glass stamp – It was more then three feet away from me when I decided to get them so you know I didn’t see them clearly
Butterfly and Sunflower stickers on the back – Also free and required because the glue on the envelope was so old it no longer stuck.

I also have some permits for Saturday - will not know exactly how many until I hear back from the Corn but I'm guessing around 2 or 3 will be available.

Johnny cakes recipe is on the side of the Jiffy box. I like mine with added corn kernels for extra corn goodness but will eat them either way.

Everything with corn goes with turkey, as well as cheesy potato and rice dishes, dishes with veggies in them (don't look Guy), bread items, chocolate items including s'mores, various assorted berry, cherry, apple or peach items, items with alcohol in them, and pork items. We should really try to make a fried turducken.

Karl - sorry to hear you're still going to have to go to the LY, but glad you kept it the same weekend JoAnn because the Coastals PowWow is the next weekend. PS love the avatar!

Shuttle tokens can be purchased without advance reservation.

Joanne,

I would like camping for one Friday and Saturday night, and permits for Saturday and Sunday. (Yes I will actually stick around and paddle the second day this time)

Thanks for hosting and making this easy.

Great job JoAnne, looks like we'll have quite a crowd. If we need more permits I will be glad to reserve them. I need 1 permit for me.

I'm in for the weekend. coming up Friday nite hopefully with hot nurse in tow. I need a hardboat permit for Saturday please.

I"ve got 6 permits for the CornRaft on Sunday and am still waiting to hear back from folks on it before I can announce any open spots left on it.
The permit is for 10:15am

most likely be:
- Me
- ??Carrie (aka.Hot Nurse)
-Monster
-??Q-Tip
-Julie
-Guy??(says he will yak if there is someone else who wants in on the raft)
* I may go and add one more to the permit, but 7 is prolly the max comfort level in the CornRaft..
