New River Gorge Gauley Fest (9/22-9/23)
I know it is a ways off but, even though it is two months away, I have already received two e-mails from people about this trip.
My plan is to run the New River Gorge both days. Andy Lee has a II / III trip planned both days most likely on some upper stretches of the New. See the cruise schedule to catch up with Andy. Likely, he will start his own thread on this board.
For this trip, I have reserved the NPS Burnwood Group campground Friday and Saturday nights. Camping is $5 a person a night. All are welcome. It is on the left as you're headed north on Rt. 19. It is just north of the bridge and across Rt. 19 from the visitor’s center. It has running water and flush toilets but no showers. Alcohol is allowed. There is only one good sized fire pit for us. There is a large picnic shelter. We can not make any new fire rings and we have to leave the place in as good a shape (if not better) than we found it or I get a beat down from the Man. Our camping area is the first one on the left as you enter the campground. Parking is only along the gravel road - no cars are to be out in the field. Leashed pets are allowed but they cannot be left unattended.
Like I said, my plan right now is to paddle the New Gorge both days. We will be meeting at the campground shelter at 10:00 to start to get things figured out. (Andy’s group may have a different meeting time – contact him for that.)
If high water becomes an issue, we will go to Plan B which will still be something in the III-IV food group but might be more creeky than the George. If Karl comes, it will unlikely be the Cranberry.
Questions? You can get me at dave (dot) kessmann (at) fgwa (dot) com or (804/651-0464). I will not be able to get e-mail after 4:00 Thursday (9/20) so call after that.
If you're planning on coming, please let me know. Also, let me know if you are self-sufficient on the Gorge, need some help, or have never run it.
I expect this trip to get to be pretty big and am looking for some volunteers to help lead on the river. So, if you’re interested in contributing to the karma pot, now is your time to step up.
Check this thread for the latest. It will be the only place I post updates.
Thanks.

Winged Monkey... and I am in too
Envelope – Free stationary taken from the Marriott while on a business trip.
Snowflake address label – sent to me free and had to be used up.
Stained glass stamp – It was more then three feet away from me when I decided to get them so you know I didn’t see them clearly
Butterfly and Sunflower stickers on the back – Also free and required because the glue on the envelope was so old it no longer stuck.

Karl, the pro plan would be to camp with us and have your wife boat with us on the George while you and Scooter fire up the Upper G. You could meet us at the campground and then we could all go to the Fest. This way, everyone is happy - no happy hats required.

wow. you should really start to worry when marshal starts to edit your posts for spelling.Bob Dole wrote:Dave K's Agent wrote:It is rumored that the entire Corn Youth Alliance will be in attendance for this trip. Truly a rare occurrence!
FCC and NSA regulations have prohibited this in the past so it is yet unsure for this trip.
Also you spelled trip with two "t"s and misspelled occurrence in your post I quoted, for grammatical reasons I corrected these errors when I quoted you.
oh, and i'm in too.

I may be headed out Wed. PM or Thurs, if anyone wants a ride. Do some vol. stuff, but would also like to do the L.G. before the W-E carnage starts. Open to anything else where avail. Many trips to the fest but not on the rivers. Too many excuses to list.
I'm a newby in the area and I know the uncertainty that creates when showing someone down the river for the first. I didn't stay at a Holiday In Express last night, but I did paddle with Scooter, O&D, and JR Sunday. If that counts.
Where will the early birds be camping/paddling? Does anyone bring their dog? I've always brought mine but not to the CG where you're staying.
Do I pay you now or when I get there?
Any additional insight would be heplful. Feel free to address that statement on the appropriate forum. I'd like to get the real flavor of your trips.

Thursday night at Burnwood?
Taking it day by day, but I have made reservations to take the entire Aquarius Plumbing crew rafting down the Lower Gauley on Friday with "Rivers."
We will probably make it a day trip, but is there any possibility of camping at Burnwood on Thursday night?

No. Sorry but I only got it for Friday and Saturday nights.David wrote:is there any possibility of camping at Burnwood on Thursday night?
It looks like the Off The Grid Pro Trip on Friday has caught on in this, it's sophmore year so nexy year, I will reserve Burnwood for another night..
This is the fourth time I’ve gotten this campground and no one has brought their dog yet. I talked to the Park Service about it and listed their policies in my first post of this thread:MichaelME wrote: Does anyone bring their dog? I've always brought mine but not to the CG where you're staying.
