O.C.T. Saturday 4/20 Maury at Goshen Pass
Posted: Mon Apr 15, 2024 5:04 pm
This is in conjunction with the Coastals Spring Rendezvous which includes two other trips planned for other sections of the Maury River and a dinner / gathering in the evening. I'm hoping to run Goshen Pass which is a class III / IV section. It includes the rapids Devil's Kitchen and Corner. We are just three days past a quite high water event which makes predictions even more difficult. Scant rain is in the forecast for the rest of the week. I hope it holds through Saturday.
I prefer to hear from you if you plan to attend. Meeting time and location to be determined. We may shorten the run depending on water level and interest.
If we're lucky and the currently falling gauge stretches into Saturday then I will expect a highly technical run. A grizzled veteran boater once said "You'll hit more rocks but you won't hit them as hard." On this USGS gauge

which is for the Maury at Rockbridge Baths, NOT the Maury at Buena Vista, I've run the Pass as low as 1.8 feet. That was rough. I'd do it again but you'd have to talk me into it at a weak moment. 1.9 is a more reasonable beater boat day for really-open minds that like challenging rock-dodging.
Please stay tuned if interested.
