OCT Goshen Pass Cleanup CHANGED TO SUNDAY 3/26!

Post by Alicia »

Date is changed to Sunday 3/26 due to rain forecast
(even tho boaters shouldn't mind a bit of rain ).
Please still RSVP by Thurs as I'll shop Fri. Thanks!

Please join us for this annual good karma event! Coastals has been doing some version of this for over 30 years! And for the first time since 2019, we're re-instituting the Cookout afterwards at my house in Rockbridge Baths, courtesy of the club.

We'll meet @ the Rockbridge Baths P.O. on Rt. 39 on Saturday, 3/25, @ 10am. Please park across from, NOT in front of or adjacent to the P.O. I'll have orange vests & trash bags. Then we'll drive upstream, stagger our parking, & pick up all the trash we can alongside Rt. 39 & down towards the river where possible. Please bring gloves. I also recommend long pants & long sleeves due to poison ivy. About noon, we'll head back to my house for lunch.

Most years, we've been fortunate to have enough water to then run 1 or 2 sections of the Maury - the Pass [Advanced], Indian Pools down [intermediate] &/or below the P.O. [low intermediate]. If not, Balcony Falls is always available as a back-up (35 minute drive from RB). Or there is hiking in the Pass.

To help with my shopping list for the cookout, PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY THURSDAY, 3/23, IF YOU ARE COMING. However, if you decide to come @ the last minute, you'll still be quite welcome, but I won't be able to promise you a big lunch.

Thanks in advance for helping with this worthwhile club event - last year we had 23 volunteers & collected 29 bags of trash while our partners, Devils Backbone Brewery of Lexington, picked up an additional 17 bags above the Pass, for a total of 46 bags! It really makes a difference.

Heads up that I am watching the forecast and might consider changing from Saturday to Sunday due to possible showers on Sat. More fun to pick up trash & enjoy a cookout without rain. Plus Fri/Sat rain might give us a chance of runnable flow on Sun.

Watch this space!

Hi Alicia,

Please count me in for cleaning and eating! But not paddling. Either Sat or Sunday.

Thanks for organizing this wonderful tradition.

Hi Alicia!
I will be there for the cleanup, but I am uncertain about paddling. See you Sunday.
I'll bring my reacher/grabber to keep from bending and reaching too much.
