May 14-15 shortage of affordable Valley hotels.

Post by TedMc »

College graduation has raised hotel prices this weekend for those who don't camp. Supply and demand.
Douthat S.P. cabins are sold out. Clifton Forge, the nearest town to Douthat, has no motels. Only a few Airbnb's.

Low Moor, on the way west to Covington and the Jackson River has a Travelodge. We got a room for about $100/night and can cancel on the day of arrival, a positive for us. Trip Advisor ratings are ok.

Covington. According to my review of the Trip Advisor ratings, in my humble opinion, there are no motels in Covington in which I would stay except for the Hampton Inn, but that is $199 /night, and not our price range. There are a few Airbnb's.

If I had not snagged the Travelodge room, i would have chosen to stay in our favorite hotel in Lexington and commuted in. That hotel is still 50% higher than the standard weekday rate of $55.

There is an affordable motel in Hot Springs that is not far from the put in for Saturday's trip. It gets mostly decent reviews. No connection, and I have never stayed there, just found it on Expedia: https://www.expedia.com/Covington-Hotel ... =207882042
