We'll be running the Seven Islands section of the James, meeting at the boat landing in New Canton at 10:30. We'll transfer boats and head up to the put in at the Hardware River Wildlife Management Area. If you are coming from the west, feel free to figure out dropping boats and meeting us in New Canton. Let me know who to expect.

Ted and Caroline coming from the East.
I will have my new solo canoe, a Wenonah Argosy, 14' 6". It is not a whitewater design. It is Royalex light, the last one the Waterport, New York dealer had in stock. Yeah, I traveled there to get it.

So do you have to pay wildlife management area fee to put in at the boat ramp ?

I don't know. I have never seen a place to pay. So two years ago I met the requirement of user fees by purchasing a fishing license which qualifies as payment. My fishing license is a lifetime/retired in state resident for $10 and I carry it with me in my pfd. In the state parks you hang your lifetime membership permit from your rear view mirror in your car. I may begin placing the fishing license on the dashboard in the car at the wildlife mgt area, since I don't fish and don't need the license on the water.

I bought a lifetime fishing license for that reason, too. But I will be bringing a group.

Late to the conversation for this particular outing, but in the past, we've been told that as long as we are just using the ramp we don't need a permit. I don't know if that is official, or just the friendly policy of the local game warden.
I do know that if you are going to get a permit, get a fishing license, as that provides the biggest kickback from the feds to the state organizations.

I don't think you'll have a problem. I've never been asked by anyone for any kind of permit. And I have the lifetime fishing license too.
