This year, the Fall Club gathering will be the weekend of 10/17/15. In keeping with tradition, it will be at the Grove Hill Community Center.

Place:
Grove Hill Community Center
8113 U.S. 340
Shenandoah, VA 22849
38.527925, -78.612232

The Community Center is right next door to the school.

Camping Info:
I have reserved the campsites along the river at Riverside Camping (http://riversidecampingcanoeing.com/services).
4298 U.S. Hwy. 340
Shenandoah, VA 22849

Tent camping is $10/person/night when you arrive. This can be paid across the street at the Kites Store/ Pure gas station. There is no need for a reservation if tent camping. The sites are an open area that is divided only by a cut-out boat ramp. There are picnic tables. There is a field above for people to park some of their vehicles if needed but not camp.

A big thanks to the owner Stan Price for working with us.

Program:
Pig Roast:
Tom McCloud’s ever-delicious roasted pig will be the center of a shared meal. Andrea will provide some side dishes but please bring your own as well. This will be the last year that Tom McCloud offers his service tot he Club to roast the pig so be sure to come out, enjoy it, and thank him.

Save the Ocoee:
Stacy Stone will be presenting on the increased fees the TVA is proposing to place on rafting as a condition of the next release permits. These fees could have a damaging effect on the raft industry on the Ocoee and could ultimately mean the end for scheduled recreational releases. You can find out more here: http://savetheocoee.org/

Footprints on the James:
John Robertson will be presenting on this Coastals supported VCU program that introduces students to the culture and history of the James River and its watershed.

Paddling

bring, if you wish, your favorite barbeque sauce, and, if your last name ends with A-E salad; F-M dessert; N-S side dish; W-Z appetizer.

and if your special dish, that you really want to make doesn't fit into the above spreadsheet - make/bring it anyway!

We'll need some help in the kitchen. 6 or 8 people when it's time to pull the pork. Andrea and Tom could use help in the kitchen/pig roast during the day. non-paddlers might find this an enjoyable time to hang out around a warm roaster. Paddlers will be able to pitch in after getting off the river. There is usually 2-3 hours between getting off the river and dinner time. Since the river is likely to be up this year, it is likely to be a quicker paddle.

See ya there!

Aluminum will be in attendance. Hearing protection is recommended.

Then again, plenty-o-water here at the moment.

Cheers,

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the South Fork of the Shenandoah on Saturday at 10:30 at the boat ramp in Newport. Ginny's right, the river will be up. No more summer lows and no flood stage. It should be a perfect level.
