Due to minimal responses and interest for both rivers the OCT has been changed
Think you might be ready for the Upper Gauley/ Upper Yough?
What you need:
• Rock-solid rolling ability: not that you have to make the first one every time, but the ability to go for it till you get it is key.
Offside rolling, hand-rolling, combat rolling experience a plus.
• Class 4 rapid experience: big water, small water, lots of 3+… whatever you’ve got let me know.
• Endurance: sure the current does most of the work but adrenaline can take its toll
• Class IV river reading skills
• Go-for-it attitude!!
I will be coordinating a trip on the Upper Yough 10/05- Upper Gauley 10/06 First Timer trip
Camping:
to be determined.
Travel Plans:
We plan to drive up Friday Night October 4th to the Upper Yough and drive to the Upper Gauley Saturday after the Upper Yough Run.
About me:
My paddling Resume on the Upper Gauley ...
I have run the Upper Gauley over a dozen times and it is on my list of favorite rivers.
My first time on the Upper Gauley I had a great mentor (thanks Lisa!) show me the lines so clearly that I had them down the next day.
I want to pass that on.
I have also paddle the Upper Yough over a dozen times.
What you need to do if you want to join us:
If you are a first timer and are interested, please email me with “Upper Gauley First Timer trip” in the subject line.
Please include your “paddling resume”
• Name,
• IF you are a First timer
• The boat you plan to paddle on the Upper G,
• Your Favorite river,
• Your Roll reliability,
• The last 3 rivers you have paddle and their levels
• How you did on the said rivers i.e. rolls/ swims. Had fun?
Please don't just show up. The Upper Yough/ Upper Gauley is an advanced skill level river.
I will be screening folks to make sure that we’re not getting in over our heads and to keep the trip safe.
I hope that all understand why this is necessary.
There will be a cap on the number of people I can accept on the trip.
And this is dependent on the number of UG veterans who join the trip.
This is a call out to all you UG and UY Veterans !
If you feel solid on the UG and would like to help a “new to the UG/ UY” paddler out, please let me know. You know who you are.
I want to make this as safe a trip as possible. Thanks for your help!
