If the Tye and Piney are running Saturday, I plan to head that way for a few runs. Kurt Sisson will probably join me if anyone else is interested, I'll post our plans early Saturday morning.

We'll do the Church to AT footbridge section.

I will be in the area and as much as I'd like to run a fork or two today I'll let my injury lead me your way tomorrow. Post up timing and I'll be around

Steve K ran it after work and posted on Facebook that he thought it might be too low by tomorrow, but he couldn't say for sure. The rate it's dropping has slowed down, but I hope it gets a little more rain late tonight to bring it up a little.

I have to leave early to get there by 9am (I live in Yorktown). So hope to see you there.

I can't make 9 but it would only be by an hour or so. I will just drive down and I'm sure laps will be occurring.

Alicia,
The Big Piney painted gauge was 1' yesterday at 3:30pm.
The Tye was dropping fast. It was 2.2 at 9 am yesterday. Piney had the most rainfall.

It looks as if the Tye and Piney still have water, so we plan to be at the AT trail footbridge take out at 10:45 - 11:00 to do a run.

Call me at five - four- zero - 814 -0520 or just be at the take out.

We plan to run at least 2 laps. If the Tye is low, we'll switch to the Piney (Class 2-3 stretch).

Yes, Raymond stood Me up for a 9am appearance but a Charlottesville buddy did see my post and the two of us did an early run. Raymond and buddies came at eleven am and we all ran the Upper Tye. The second trip had a couple of our paddlers number as the Tye took a bite out of Raymond requiring rescue. Anyway the day was good and I got two runs on the Upper Tye. Now that is what I call a trip.

Kurt and I had good runs on the Tye and Piney with a different group on each.

The Tye was about 4.98 (666 CFS) on the Lovingston gauge. It was an o.k. level to run, but we hit a lot of rocks and some of the lines were more difficult because of the low water.

We decided to head over to the Piney which was at 4.27 589 CFS. It was a much better choice. We put on just below the Rt. 666 bridge and ran to just above the dam at Lowesville. This section had plenty of water. In the first section, there are three nice class III drops with some complexity, but they are basically read and run.

After that, there are a lot of class II wave trains, with some fairly big waves in spots. A few low hanging tree branches complicated a few rapids, but nothing too serious and no river wide strainers. The last mile or so flattens outs a bit, with good current, though. At today’s levels, I’d do the Piney first and run several laps instead of doing the Tye.
