Definitely ... but given the sun doesn't really rise now until @ 6:30, how about we push back to 6:30 or 7?

I figure that by the time we shuttle and get suited up the sun will be coming up just in time. Maybe we should just surf at First Break longer till it does

It looks like it'll be close to 7 feet. haven't paddled it close to that. What should I expect at that level?
YOAD - what say ye?

7' is not signifantly different than 6'. What's your previous high water mark on the Lower James?

Fast, the approach to Hollywood (stripper) is the mean place needing to be carefull. Hollywood itself is good (stay on line), the class three below tricky. Pipline is the most thilling (stay away from the pipe line itself). Recommend tripple drop.

4.2 is the highest I have run the LJ. I have experience on Class IV (Ocoee) but that was 12 years ago

i think its a large difference

I believe there is a large difference between 6' & 7'. The river is pushy, looks completely different than at 4.2'. Hollywood is easy, but getting on line after Stripper can be difficult. Repercussions of swimmimng are also much more significant. Below Hollywood, work right to avoid the large hydraulic at boof rock. I never thought Pipeline was significantly more difficult, just run down the middle of the wave train and hold on! Regardless of my or anyone else's opinion, the James at 7' can be deadly. Be sure you are with a competent group who is on the lookout for you and your entire group.

Perhaps I need to consider an UJ run then. Anyone up for that instead?

don't let me dissuade you from trying the run-I'm only giving you the "open boat" perspective. Just be careful out there, you can always sneak Hollywood along the right bank and Pipeline on the left of the large rocks
