4/21/12 Eddy Turns, Peel Outs & Ferries Kayak Clinic
4/21/12 Eddy Turns, Peel Outs & Ferries Kayak Clinic:
Description:
Improve your ability to avoid obstacles, break down tough rapids into manageable moves, get into surf waves, and create your own rest areas on the river. This clinic will address key fundamental skills for safe, fun and efficient river paddling. Taught by two L4 ACA River Kayak Instructors and driven by fun, this clinic will have you lacing up classic river moves with style and grace.
Location:
Balcony Falls section of the James (Glasgow, VA to Snowden, VA) –
Format:
One fun filled fun day styling our way down the James.
When:
Saturday, 4/21/12 in conjunction with the Coastal Canoeists' Spring Meeting .
Topics Covered:
* Eddy turns
* Peel outs
* Catching micro eddies
* Front ferrying
* Back ferrying
* High instructor to student ratio allows for flexibility in the topics covered – just let us know what you want to work on.
Requirements:
* You must be comfortable with the idea of paddling Class II-III whitewater.
* A kayak with hip pads and thigh braces (preferably a full whitewater boat) with flotation bags, paddle, helmet, pfd, and skirt
* Food, water, and whatever else you need for a full day on the river
* The water will still be cold and flipping is always possible, so appropriate cold water paddling clothing is required and I’d suggest a having a fuzzy rubber head heater or balaclava handy
* A roll is a bonus, but not required – a willingness to hang out for a T-rescue should keep you sufficiently warm and dry.
Cost:
Coastals Members - $50 / per student ($55 non-ACA member)
Non-Coastals - $60 / per student ($65 non-ACA member)

Generally, I think that if I have the opportunity to paddle, and I've got something else to do or I feel like I shouldn't go for some reason, then I force myself to go and I always have a great time. So, I guess when in doubt -- Go, Paddle. -- Tommy Hilleke
Update: Several spots are still available for this clinic.

Update: Two spots left and still plenty of time to sign up. Looking forward to it!
