Sat, April 18, James River @ Balcony Falls

Post by Jenny »

In the absence of much needed and hoped for rain, we have changed the location of the intermediate club trip on the Sat of the Spring Gathering from the Maury to the James. Ken Dubel and I will coordinate a trip on the Balcony Falls section of the James River (Locher Landing to Snowden). We will meet at 11 a.m. at Locher Landing. Please let me know by Friday morning if you plan to come with us (or have any questions). Looking forward to a great spring on the river!

Miette and I will go tandem. Hope others want to take out at Snowden, rather than the short takeout.

I, and I expect several others, will be taking out either at the boat ramp, or maybe the AT parking lot. I prefer the boat ramp.

Sally and I will be taking out at the Snowden boat ramp, as it is the only take-out that is accessible and does not involve crossing the RR tracks.

Thanks to Jenny for getting this thread going. I was out of town early in the week and worked way to much for the rest of it.

Looks like we'll have around 1,200 cfs combining the Buchanan gauge on the James and the Buena Vista gauge on the Maury. This is a mild flow, not too boney. I'm seeing a high in the mid to upper 80's but the water is probably a little on the, ahem, refreshing side so you might bring some splash-wear.

I'm happy to help facilitate taking out at whichever location.

I look forward to yet another fine day!

Cheers,

Ken
