OCT: Maury or Balcony Sat. Nov. 5 Cancelled

Post by Raymond »

If the Maury is running, we will run Rockbridge Baths to Copper Road; if not, then the Balcony Falls section of the James.

Meet at 11:00 a.m. at the putin to set shuttle. Putin is Rockbridge Baths for the Maury; Locher Landing for Balcony.

This is a novice/intermediate level trip. You must have cold weather paddling clothes for this trip. Bring a face mask for the shuttle.

The current forecast is for a warm day and just a little rain early in the week, so it’s not looking as if the Maury will be high enough.

But check back later in the week for an update on which river we’ll run.

Based on the river levels and weather forecast, I’m going to cancel the trip.

The James is low, approaching the official minimum. Based on my notes, it’s at a level where you have to navigate a lot to avoid rocks. Also, the forecast calls for showers all day Saturday, plus some wind, which isn’t a great combination for a low water day on Balcony.

Sorry we didn’t have better conditions for this weekend.
