OCT Sat Aug 14 Smith River in Bassett

On Saturday, August 14, I am coordinating a trip on the Smith River in Virginia (Philpott Dam to Bassett) which is a Class 2 section just over 6 miles and about 2 ½ hours. The water is cool (50 degree range), and it’s a scenic section with several play spots. The releases have been at the lower levels recently 200 – 300 CFS.

We will meet at 11:00 a.m at the takeout (North Bassett Canoe Access) at Trenthill Drive in Bassett, Virginia.

Betty and I will be there. Coming in from west on rt 57 and will drop our boat below the dam enroute to Trenhill Rd.

We are putting in on the Franklin County side of the river which is off of Rt. 772, not off of Rt. 57, so just meet us at the take out for shuttle.
