Gathering and Lower Yough Logistics/Planning Questions
I'm hoping to paddle the Lower Yough for the 1st time at the Summer Gathering, but I'm getting stumped by some logistics. :-/ I have a few questions:
1. Are there any river access logistics we need to plan ahead for? Why am I thinking there might be a launch permit or shuttle ticket needed? What do I need to do to make sure I can paddle with the group?
2. Does the river, or nearby rivers, run on Sunday? My dog-sitter wants to know what time I'll be back and if there are permits involved I want to plan accordingly.
3. I'm still looking into campsites, it looks like Brenner Meadows has some group sites and some non-power tent sites left. Is anyone interested in sharing a group site. It looks like it cost s $90 for 2 nights with up to 4 people, then goes up $25-30 per person after that. Let me know if you are interested, otherwise we might just get an individual site.

Hi Abbie.
So glad you are coming, you will love the river!
Ken is trip coordinator and should be able to answer your questions but is working long days so it might be late this evening. I can say yes about permits and that we will definitely be boating Sunday.
I do hope others will also chime in on your question number three.

I've stayed at Ohiopyle before, and it is a very nice state park. Almost all sites are shaded, and nice bathhouses. They are very strict about the no alcohol rule though (more than most other state parks, I guess because of the reputation of boaters, and it being a family park??). Conjecture on my part regarding the why.

For those who didn't see the Facebook post, here is information about the permit system. Permits are required for Saturday and Sunday, but not weekdays. Even on weekdays, you need to buy a shuttle token at the entrance before you put on the river.
If you arrive early Friday, you can run the entire river or just the Loop, which is a short run and shuttle.
The link below will take you to the appropriate site to purchase river permits, or you can call the park number 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), Monday through Saturday, 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time.
If you get a 9 a.m. slot, then you have to walk past the entrance between 9:00 and 9:59 a.m. If some in your group have 9 and others have 10 a.m., then the 9 a.m. group can walk in around 9:50 and wait at the put in or play at the first wave (about 100 yards downstream), and the second group can enter at 10:01.
You do need to run shuttle before your time slot. The shuttle token allows you to ride the shuttle bus from the river to the takeout parking lot, not back to the putin. You buy the shuttle token at the entrance kiosk.
