OCT Sat 2/9 Sea Kayak Lake Philpot

Post by Elanor325 »

Chris & I will be breaking out the long boats for a beautiful flatwater paddle on Lake Philpot on Sat 2/9. We'll meet at Ryan's Branch and likely paddle towards the Lake's headwaters up the Smith River, past a small waterfall, cool rock formations and muddy shoals.

Paddle is ~8 miles round trip if we paddle until we run out of water. You should be comfortable paddling distance on flat water with possible wind & waves. Your boat should be designed for flat water, at least 12 feet in length and able to track well. No whitewater, river or rec boats. Sea kayaks preferred. Some Canoes may be ok. PFD required.

Beginners with coldwater gear and an appropriate vessel welcome. :-)

Probably meeting 11a ish. I'll confirm later this week when I have a better idea of the weather & how far away folks are coming from.

Let's plan on meeting around 11a at Ryan's Branch to put on the water by 11:30a. Look for the wood boats.

Let me know if I should expect you.

See you there Richard & Kevin!
