Mangles Lower Gauley trip Staring Jackie

Post by Giggles »

Thank you all for the great weekend.

Saturday on the Lower Gauley with continuous light rain (sideways) with a great crew.
A few High lights of comments included:
"wait what is the level?"
" I have been keeping my mouth shut all day"
" I have to make curfew"

We had 2 first-timers who rocked it! Congratulations Dee and Andrew.

Ended the day with birthday song and Jackie blowing out 30 candles in an instant.

Sunday, today we ran the Cranberry.

Lots of fun had by all. 3 PFDs achieved.

Lesson for the day. If you are going to WV. Bring a Creek boat because you never know.

My Evo got some good play time in S-turn hole.
Pictures to come. :D . Unfortunately a swim became an option. Thank you Dave for the rope, Greg and Drew for reuniting me with my boat and paddle.

This trip wouldn't have been possible with out the continued support of my husband. 10 years ago he proposed and made me a very happy woman. Making me Giggles.

Thank you Wade for always making the weekend perfect.
Thank you for Shuttling, dog sitting, taking pictures and supporting us all.

Looking forward to having you back on the Water with me very soon!

Awesome weekend Sejal.
Warm temps and some extra water on the Lower G Sat and sun and creekin today on the Cranberry. (I'm calling the LG 3500 cfs)

Saw some excellent river running skills exhibited on both runs and also saw a few people work hard for their love of boating this weekend.

Thanks for letting me be part of the festivities!!

Wallace and Gromit had a great weekend, even if we were a bit cranky Saturday night. I'm blaming the late dinner and putting up a tent in the dark. A good nights sleep cured that, thank goodness.

I didn't really notice the extra water in the Lower Gauley until we got to Upper Mash. The boof was well covered, and I thought "Hmm. I'll just keep this to myself. No need making everybody all tense." The look on Gromit's face when we broke the news to her below PSH was priceless!

The Cranberry we paddled yesterday didn't seem anything like what I remember from years ago. A little more water makes a lot more challenge. Thanks to some timely encouragement from Swmmr Greg, I made it thru S-Turn, and had a great day!

Let me put in a shameless plug for the Blackfly Octane 91. That boat gets me through more goofs than I can count. If you're thinking about open boating, and you have a strong back, get one!

Last, but not least...

WADE IS AWESOME!!!

My thanks to Greg, Drew, Dave, Liz, Jackie, Patrick and Jon for coming out to provide experienced boaters for this (my) First Timers Trip. This support is what makes Coastals a great club! Special thanks to Sejal for inviting me and being my pilot. I had a fabulous time and only swam once! Probably good I did not know we had a lot of "bonus" water (thanks Dave for saving that observation until after the Mashes.) And finally: thank you Wade for running shuttle for us and just being your ever cheerful self!!

Yep. A good weekend, tho 3300-3400 cfs on LG is Gromit beat down level apparently. Many thanks to the great crew who rescued me and my yard sale, and emptied my 8000 lb boat. And for keeping the level a secret.
Cranberry was a lovely treat. I even made it through S turn rapid with a little help from my friend Greg!
Big thanks to Wade and Sejal for organizing, shuttling, photo taking and encouraging.

This was just the weekend I ordered. Thanks to everyone for organizing and making it great! Even though I unintentionally came home with one less boat it was still a good weekend. The rain was great for some good WV creekin and I got a PFD on the cranberry!

Special thanks to Wade for the shuttle and great pictures!
