OCT Sun 1/17 Appomattox
This is a very nice Class 3 run near Harper's Ferry - a great place to spend the weekend. We are probably looking at a leisurely 11:00 am start time. Please let me know if you are planning to go!

Thanks for volunteering anyway! I had this one on my radar as I don't get to paddle the Staircase so often. I, too, will likely stay more local.chromo wrote:Cancelling this OCT due to lack of response. I will paddle closer to home this weekend, and I will post those details to Facebook when I have them in case anyone would like to join a more local trip.
Cheers,

Trip report
I had a fantastic day on the Appomattox today. Only four of us were hardcore enough to come out and paddle through the first snow of the year, which continued almost all the way to Pipeline rapid.
We were rewarded with the ideal water level in my opinion (2100 rising to 2400), pristine quiet and snowdusted scenery (no four wheelers out today), a bald eagle watching us from the top of a sycamore, and zero swims. We ran the abutment dam, Target Rock, and the new Triple Flip rapid at the end without incident.
PSA: there is still a stainer in the left side of Jughandle, which is not visible from the top. It is not as hazardous as it was last month, but I will continue to run the right side until it is gone.
