OCT Sunday June 15 Central VA Dealer's Choice

Post by TedMc »

Central VA dealer's choice I had hoped would be one of the smaller streams...but all are too low already.
Off to the mighty James which has very good water, over 3000 cfs. The section will be Hardware to New Canton which includes the interesting Seven Islands section. Remember your pass for the put in.
Post here or contact me for meeting time and place. I would like to minimize the need for a beginning shuttle.

I might be interested in Sunday.

Let me know if you think you have enough people for a trip. I'm trying to find a trip Saturday instead but if that doesn't work out I am determined to get my boat wet this weekend.

I have four paddlers driving three cars. Everyone interested should contact me by Friday night with phone number if not in the directory, so I will know if I have to have one or two shuttles. One shuttle is 45 minutes. Friday night I will know the answer on where to meet.

Fran & I are coming down from c'ville. Will likely drop boats & Fran at put in then drive down to take out, or what ever works best for you.

James River Hardware to New Canton float

Post by PaddleAllen »

Jan and I will be coming. We will be coming from Lake Monticello if someone needs a lift. Looking forward to checking out the 7 Islands section. Jan and I could be talked into a longer run if there are any takers.

Gentleman Jim,
We will throw the Swifty on the van, if you would like to use it.

The paddle group has grown to 13, with most coming from the west (C'ville area). So the shuttle works this way. Those coming from west of the putin at the Hardware WMA, arrive there by about 9:45 am, drop the boats and extra passengers (Fran at the least will be there) and drive the 20+ minutes to the takeout at New Canton and arrive by 10:30 am.

Those of us from the east (Richmond area) will go to the take out at New Canton at 10:15 am, transfer boats, and bring the west drivers back to the putin. After the paddle, we will need one west driver on their way home to take the east shuttle drivers back to the putin to retrieve their cars.

Trip overview: launch about 11:00 am, long lunch, takeout about 3:00 pm. The James will be about 3000cfs which offers the rare opportunity of paddling the right channel, not available during most summer months. My cell is 804-218-1238....but cell coverage does not exist near the Hardware WMA or along Rte. 6 until Fork Union.

As this is a Coastals trip, remember our traditon of arriving early in order to be ready to begin the shuttle on time
