Lower Gauley in NOVEMBER!?

Post by Wallace »

Here's the link to the Gauley release schedule. Note that USACE plans to release about 2800 cfs during the first week of November. As it happens I'm off that weekend. 11/5 and 11/6. If you're interested in going, PLEASE POST HERE. Thanks!

I am interested, but will be a 1st-timer. Let me know if that would be a problem.

Do you know if they're planning on releasing 11/12-11/13?

I don't know. Looks to me like they want to reach winter pool during the first week of November. So I'd say anytime after that would be minimal flow. And colder. And I won't be there. And Gromit won't either. And you know you want to come play with us on the FIFTH OF NOVEMBER.

By the fifth of November, the Gauley will be so yesterday... oh, and it's a Cheoah / Tallulah weekend. If Tallulah releases, I'll be headed south.
Generally, I think that if I have the opportunity to paddle, and I've got something else to do or I feel like I shouldn't go for some reason, then I force myself to go and I always have a great time. So, I guess when in doubt -- Go, Paddle. -- Tommy Hilleke

Uh, lets get back to the gauley.....

Post by allwet »

Need to clue you newer paddlers in. Gauley season STARTS the second week of October and ENDS the second weekend in September. EZ access anywhere. No crowds. Few if any rafts. I know G season rox but take a look at the gauges the gauley runs ALL THE TIME. Patrick says 400 cfs is a GREAT level.....

OK so the thread is about the Nov 5-6 lower G trip. We are still planning on it, weather and water dependent. Check in the week before.

Aloha

REMEMBER REMEMBER THE FIFTH OF NOVEMBER! Feel free to bring a fifth of your favorite beverage. I'll make extra special dispensation for anyone with bourbon.

My attorney says timing is everything......I am hoping the boyz dont hit the bourbon.....

We will leave early Sat am (5-6 am) and plan to meet at swiss at 10-11, load up and shuttle up to Koontz.....my truck can take a group....lets hope for warm weather and sun. If it is 40s to 50s we may bag, 60s we are there.

Here's the forecast. The link should update as the week progresses. As long as things look this good and I don't get snagged for overtime, we'll be there.
