The Summer Meeting OCT on the Lower Yough will be coordinated by Wade & Sejal Kinker (Mangles).
Club Camping is at Benners Campground. The Coastal group site is site #501 with site #502 being overflow.
Group site camping is $10.75 a person a night. Nearby individual sites are also available. http://www.coastals.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10067
After a delicious pancake breakfast, cooked by the officers of the club (please use this opportunity to tell the officers what you would like to see from the club), we will plan on loading boats for shuttle, leaving by 10:30. We may have a second shuttle set up for the later time slot. We will drop off cars at the Takeout and then go to the Put In in Ohiopyle. Don’t forget to have some money for shuttle tokens (to be bought at the Put In in Ohiopyle). I believe they are $4.00 each.
For Saturday, I have procured 30 hard boat passes, 15 each for 11 am and Noon. The club is paying for the passes, so first dibs go to dues paying members as a benefit of Club membership!
This will be a “First Timer” Friendly Trip.
One of the Time Slots will be led by Sejal Kinker (Giggles) and the other will be led by Former Coastals President Raymond Williams.
If not everyone in your family is a paddler (a really odd thought, but different strokes right
If you plan to boat on Sunday, you should purchase your own river passes from the park . There is a shorter loop run for those who want to get on the road early. You may call 724-329-8591 or buy online at http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/ ... whitewater
There is a strong possibility that there will be a trip on Friday, July 15. No permits are required, but you still need shuttle tokens. Check the message board as the date approaches for details.
Also, Alicia Jahsmann will be leading an Upper Yough trip.
Ohiopyle also has Rails to Trails running along both the Middle (11 miles one way) and Lower Yough (5.75 miles, one way) that can be walked/hiked or ridden on a bike. The Rails to Trails is built on an old railroad line and has a very slight grade, so it is a very moderate hike or ride. MaxK, Sejal and I biked the Lower Yough section last time we were up there and had a great time. There are also hiking trails off of that which are more rugged; we found several nice waterfalls, that weren’t far off the Rails to Trails.
Ohiopyle has also been doing some nice improvements since last year and have really made the town more user friendly.
