Upper New River during Gauleyfest - Sat 9/19
Trip is pending finding a co-coordinator.
This is a different trip from Dave K's New River Gorge trip; it's a class I-III run. If you plan to join us, e-mail me.
The plan is to meet at the Burnwood Group Campground (across Rt. 19 from the New River Gorge Visitor’s Center) at 10 am.
The Upper New is a fun intro to bigger water; the rapids are straightforward and there are big recovery pools below each one.
At the current levels, we will probably run the Thurmond – Cunard (includes Surprise) section both days, but that may change to McCreery - Thurmond if the levels come up.
Our goal is to combine shuttles with Dave K's New River Gorge trip for the superawesomeDaveKextreme shuttle.
If you have a group of mixed level boaters, some may want to join Dave K's New River Gorge trip and others join our Upper New trip. Remember to contact Dave K if anyone in your group is running the NRG.
Dave K has reserved the NPS Burnwood Group campground - any questions about camping should be directed to him. All are welcome. It is on the left as you're headed north on Rt. 19. It is just north of the bridge and across Rt. 19 from the Visitor’s Center. It has running water and flush toilets but no showers. Alcohol is allowed. There is only one good sized fire pit for us. There is a large picnic shelter with lights AND exhaust fans. We can not make any new fire rings and we have to leave the place in as good a shape as we found it. Our camping area is the first one on the left as you enter the campground.
Camping is $5/night payable to Dave K. You can also stay at Chestnut Creek Campground with the Camp Nazi (304) 574-3136. It's just north of the NRG Bridge on the right.

Upper New Trip--Gauley Fest
Hey Julie. I can help you with that. Let me know what you need me to do. I will go out on Friday and camp with the group.

WEATHER and PADDLING CONDITIONS
Who knows what the weather will do? If you do, you will make a lot of money.
* Can't find a water temp gauge on the New so I'm guessing it will be between 70 and 75 degrees.
Questions, comments? E-mail me.
Sounds good, Kirby. Did I paddle with you and your older brother last year in WV when the guy buzzed us in his canard pusher?Dan P wrote:im interested in paddling the upper new. my mom can shuttle with a van.

Just realized some folks may not know what Gauleyfest is all about and how to help the cause: http://www.americanwhitewater.org/conte ... nts_gauley
