Interesting. I did not expect much change upstream from the bridge. I did expect more change downstream. It was low water yesterday, so I guess you really couldn't tell if the whirlpool was effected. The dam break upstream was named "The General Lee" just after it formed a few years ago. A...

Class 1-2 w/ some flatwater. There will be a few waves to surf below I-95 (if you run the South channel). After that where most of the river goes right, you'll want to go left. There should be a wave or two at the top of the S-turns & nice eddy-lines at the bottom. After a bit of flatwater you'l...

Yeah! I've played there at lower levels. At 6.3' it's a little intimidating for me. At 9' it's SCARY  I'm thinking somewhere in the 5.5' range would probably be the most fun. I might try it at 6.3' if it were warm, but we all know the App only runs when it's cold

I can't make it this week, but thought I'd post my notes from 4/6/08. Stage rose from 6.28' to 6.33' while we paddled. Flow rose from 3,670cfs to 3,740cfs while we paddled. Excellent level. Plenty of water for glass. Surf waves everywhere. Perfect level for the female doggy wave. VA State is cake at...

Rappahannock Canoe Race Rescheduled

The GRWCR committee has decided to postpone the races scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday (June 7 and 8 ) due to high water. They will be re-scheduled later this summer and will be announced as much in advance of the event as can be done. Please let any other competitors that you know who were pl...

At this level the only stuff to play on in a canoe are a couple of waves below I-95 &, if I remember correctly the side-surfing hole is still in at the s-turns. Kerr's power declaration is 11,000cfs through Friday. Judging from the amount of water in Kerr Lake, the river will be high through str...

Squirtin' at Weldon 4/10

They cranked up the dam to 11,100cfs last night. That pretty much washes out the rapid at Weldon (the wave is 10 feet below the surface), but some whirlpools form at the top of the dumpster. I played the whirlpools w/ my Acrobat & the demo Maven. I'm a mere tadpole, yet I got down to my armpits....

I'm on graveyard shift all month. Mondays will be my best bet for travelling. Tuesdays through Saturdays I'll need too much sleep & will just go to Weldon to play on the wave and/or do lots of attaining work to try to build endurance.

Park & sink on the App 2/4

Any guess as to how the App will be for park & sink on Monday? It's at 4.55' now, but should be dropping soon.

I've got a master cut Acrobat & a MAVEN :D if anyone wants to try them.
