Re: OCT, SUNDAY, Sept 27 SEVEN ISLANDS

Barb is on the money. Using the old legacy USGS stuff, the table format gives a nice breakdown of cfs by time. My guess is you'd have between 600 & 700 cfs with a typical 11am start time. It wouldn't drop fast necessarily but would most likely be below 600 cfs by the time you get off the river. ...

OCT Saturday Sept 13

UPDATE: We'll meet at the Columbia takeout at 10:30am. -------------------------------- I had scheduled a Rapidan trip for Saturday, but due to the lack of rainfall, the Rapidan will be too low to run. So, I'm moving the trip to the James from New Canton to Columbia. It's 9-10 mile moving water run ...

OCT Sunday Sept 8 - SF Shenandoah

I plan to paddle the Shenandoah to Grove Hill section of the SF Shenandoah on Sunday. Note this is a day change from what's listed on the calendar. The weather forecast looks much nicer for Sunday and perhaps there will be a little bump in water levels from the chance of rain on Saturday. This is a ...

OCT: Saturday, June 1 - SF Shenandoah

Saturday’s beginner/novice level trip will be on the South Fork Shenandoah from the Bixler’s Bridge/Inskeep Landing to Bealer’s Ferry. This is an 8-mile class I trip that is suitable for anyone. It’s a typical SF Shenandoah run with riffles and tiny ledges. Water levels look good as of today. There ...

***Cancelled**+ OCT Sunday, March 17 Rivanna River

Sunday’s club trip is a beginner/novice level trip on the Rivanna from Crofton to Palmyra. This is a 6.5’ish mile class I trip. At the expected water levels for Sunday, there will be a half dozen small rapids/riffles with moving flat water in between. Air temperatures look to be in the upper 60s, bu...

OCT Saturday Oct 21: Coordinator’s choice will be on the James

**CANCELLED** With the rivers being very low in central VA and very little rain in the forecast until the end of the week, this Saturday’s beginner/novice trip will be on the James from New Canton to Columbia. I haven’t paddled this section before, but I understand it holds its water well and should...

OCT SF Shenandoah Aug 12 2023

One of Saturday's OCTs was on the SF Shenandoah from Grove Hill to Newport. The predominant features of this section are the 2.5-mile lake and dam portage required which is why I hadn't paddled this section before today. I was joined by a few other adventurous souls: Pete, Christina, and Dennis (K1)...

OCT Saturday, August 12 SF Shenandoah

I'm planning to paddle the Grove Hill to Newport section on Saturday. I've never paddled this section but have been wanting to cross it off the list for a long time. It's an ~5.5 mile, class I'ish trip with close to half of it being flat water behind the Newport dam. We will need to portage around t...

Re: OCT Shenandoah, Sunday, June 11.

The current USGS reading for Luray is 405 cfs. My river diary for 10-12-19 listed the Luray gage as 340 cfs, and note to self this is a no go level in a solo canoe. Since the 211 bridge replacement, has anyone determined that the Luray gage has changed? Not to compare apples and oranges, From my di...
